전남대학교 수의과대학 BK21플러스 글로벌-바이오 질환제어기술 산업인재양성팀이 4월 22일(월) 13시 30분부터 전남대학교 수의과대학 1호관 101호에서 2019년 춘계 국제미니심포지움을 개최했다.
‘난치성 질환과 천연물을 이용한 치료’를 주제로 열린 이 날 심포지엄에서는 Joseph Dela Cruz 교수 (Department of Basic Veterinary Science, College of Veterinary Medicine, University of the Philippines Los Banos), Maria Amelita Estacio 교수 (Department of Basic Veterinary Science, College of Veterinary Medicine, University of the Philippines Los Banos), Ian Goodfellow 교수 (Division of Virology, Department of Pathology, University of Cambridge), Myra Hosmillo 박사 (Division of Virology, Department of Pathology, University of Cambridge)가 강연자로 나섰다.
첫 연자로 나선 Joseph F. dela Cruz 교수가 ‘Evaluation of the Sedative Effect of Ethanolic Extract of Tabernamontana pandacaqui Lam’을 주제로 강의의 서두를 열었으며, 이어 Maria Amelita Celino Estacio 교수의 ‘Drug Development Research and Biomedical Product Development Using Indigenous Materials Produced By The Philippine Stingless Bee (Tetragonula biroi Friese)’ 발표가 진행되었다. 세 번째 강의를 한 Ian Goodfellow 교수는 ’Noroviruses subvert the core stress granule component G3BP1 to promote viral VPg dependent translation’ 에 관한 주제를 발표했다. 마지막으로 Myra Hosmillo 박사는 ‘Human norovirus replication in intestinal epithelia is restricted by the IFN-induced JAK/STAT signalig pathway’를 주제로 인간에게서의 기전을 밝히며 통합치료에 대한 필요성을 강조했다.
이날 세미나에는 약 50여 명의 교수, 대학원생, 학부생들이 참여했으며, 강의 후에는 강의 주제와 연구방법론에 대한 질의응답을 나눴다.
전남대학교 수의학과 문창종 교수 (글로벌-바이오 질환제어기술 산업인재양성팀장)는 “최근 생활환경 변화와 함께 급증하는 난치성 질환은 국내는 물론 전 세계적으로 인류의 건강을 위협하고 있으며, 이를 극복하기 위해 여러 분야의 통합치료가 필요한 실정이다”라며 “본 사업팀은 세계 유수 전문가를 초청하여 최근 문제가 되고 있는 난치성 질환과 천연물을 이용한 치료에 관하여 토론하고자 한다”고 심포지엄의 개최 취지를 설명했다.
이어 “이번 국제 미니 심포지엄은 향후 국내에서 발생하고 있는 여러 난치성 질환에 대한 치료제 개발을 위한 양질의 밑거름이 될 것으로 생각한다”고 소감을 밝혔다.
